The webinar, Webinar- Congenital Heart and Blood Vessel Problems, is being presented by Siddharth Prakash, MD, PhD and Jane Grande-Allen, PhD.
In this presentation, the presenters will review the types of heart and blood vessel problems that affect girls and women with Turner syndrome. They will review recommendations for lifelong care of people with heart or blood vessel problems. We will discuss current research on the causes of bicuspid aortic valve and thoracic aortic aneurysms in TS. Participants will learn about congenital heart disease, the Turner Syndrome clinical guidelines, and current research participation opportunities.

About the Presenters:
Dr. Prakash is Associate Professor, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston; Professor, Rice University. Dr. Prakash received his MD and PhD degrees from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and is board certified in cardiovascular medicine, adult echocardiography, and adult congenital heart disease. He is a TSF professional member and serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Turner Syndrome Society of the United States. He currently administers the Turner Syndrome Research Registry and directs the adult Turner syndrome clinic at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Jane Grande-Allen is the Isabel C. Cameron Professor of Bioengineering at Rice University. Dr. Grande-Allen received her Ph.D. at the University of Washington. Her investigations of the chemical and mechanical conditions in both diseased and healthy valves are designed to reveal why structural defects occur and how to develop alternatives to conventional open-heart surgery to repair or replace diseased heart valves. These alternatives include drug therapies and engineered heart valves for patients of different age groups. Dr. Prakash and Dr. Grande-Allen received a collaborative research award from the National Science Foundation to study aortic valve disease in TS.
